step 1

To start with, you need three source photos.
1-a sky with a few clouds.
2-a portrait (or a cat or flowers, whatever you find pretty)
3-papyrus (or another paper with structure)
You will find all the sources on free stock sites, but for the portrait it would be great if you used a photo of someone you love, to give it that personal touch.
We start with the clouds.

step 2

Duplicate the background
layer>duplicate layer >> background copy
Change the brightness and contrast
layer>new adjustment layer>brightness/contrast
to make the layer darker.

step 3

Use a soft eraser to erase the middle of the background copy. I used the 200 pixel one.
Click on the arrow next to "brush" to open the brush preset picker.

step 4

Erase everything but the edges.

step 5

Copy the whole image.
edit>copy merged
Click on the top layer (brightness/contrast1)
edit>paste >> layer 1
Now we have to make layer 1 smaller.
edit>transform>scale
Press the shift key while you scale the layer down to keep the same proportions.
Make sure the new layer is in the middle of the image.

avatar hillekeYep that's personal.
The nice thing about a tutorial is that you use take the things you like and leave out the things
you don't like.
