step 1
Here is the original image we will reflect.

step 2
First we make 2 layers of the bottom 4th of the image. rectangle marquee then Ctrl + J to copy. set the top layer to multiply, bottom layer normal. then make a copy of the part we are going to reflect.

step 3
Now flip the reflection layer vertical, edit-transform-flip vertical. make another copy. set the top layer to multiply to darken it. Next click enable mask button. with the linear gradient, mask out the bottom of the normal reflect layer so it fades into dark. now you can see the layer bellow come through the top layer because of the masking fade.

step 4
To use gradient mask, Hit the D to bring up blk and wht. (X) switches back and forth) while holding down Shift (that will make a straight line) drag the gradient vertical on the layer you want to mask.

step 5
This is a displacement map to use for the wave or ripple we are making. we are using black to make the layer. the layer will be saved as a psd. (delete the background so you have only the black layer. to save layer as new, hold down Ctrl click layer to select it in layers palette, when selected go Ctrl (C) to copy, then Ctrl (N) for new document, hit OK, then Ctrl (V) to paste save the layer as (dmap ripple) when we use the displace filter we will go to that psd.
