Tutorial goal:
Hi! In the web you can find tons of tutorials about the making of real clouds. With this tutorial I won't show that... We'll start creating some very useful textures ( steps 1 - 9 ), then some very nice backgrounds ( steps 16 - 28) and also a few special tricks ( steps 10 - 15 and 28 - 34 ) I'm sure you will understand why the clouds are in the "render" menu. REALLY IMPORTANT: the base for every effect is made this way and I will not repeat it during the tutorial: 1 Foreground/Background colors -> white/black 2 filter -> render -> clouds 3 filter -> render -> difference clouds (applied as many times you want: remember that this will influence the complexity of your picture) The amazing part of these effects is that they're made in a few steps though being complex and beautiful. the source used here (thanks to heisar) http://www.photoshoptalent.com/photoshop-album/heisar/1825/47aefd5d592e4/moon.html This special tutorial is very easy and you can make it with photoshop cs2 or 3 Enjoy!

step 1
Let's begin creating some stone and wood texture as samples.
Open a new document:
i used a 1400 x 900 pixels with 100 of resolution.
You can use the size you want but the clouds filter is influenced by the document size.
Now let's create our starting clouds layer as I've just explained.

step 2
After the clouds apply the difference clouds.
I've done it for 6 times. (press ctrl+F to reapply a filter)

step 3
To create a stone texture:
Go to filter -> stylize -> emboss.
Play with settings searching the best result

step 4
And here it is a very useful stone texture.
Levels were useful here (ctrl+L)

step 5
you can obtain many types of rocks..
This one is made inverting the stone texture just created and playing with levels (ctrl +L) and curves (ctrl +M).
A very nice white rock
