Tutorial goal:
Hi everyone in this tutorial I've masked some flowers and used them to create patterns.
You can find here:
- how to use the channels to mask an object
- how to create a perfect and homogeneous pattern.
- how the offset filter works.
- how to clone and fix with the Clone Stamp.
- some general suggestions in masking an object. (a flower in this tutorial)

I think you can do this tutorial even with a Photoshop CS2 version.
Enjoy!

step 1
Those are the photos used.
Let's begin masking the first flower

step 2
Here is the first. Notice the strong contrast between the green of the leaves and the orange of the flower.
This is perfect for our work on channels.

step 3
In the channel menu (on the right in the layers menu) you have the channels of colours: all (RGB) and then red, green, blue. Normally is switched to RGB.
Now we choose the red one by clicking on it. Notice the pretty nice contrast of the flower: this happens because the orange color is near to red (and we are on a red channel now).

step 4
Now duplicate the channel: right click and duplicate.
Then press ctrl+L to adjust the levels: we want to obtain a hard contrast like black/white.
To do so switch the arrows of shadows, highlights and midtones as showed in the image.

step 5
Ok now take a simple brush of a decent size and clean the imprecise zones such as the center of the flower
