What are you looking for?

Tutorial goal:

This is a tutorial on how to turn a photo of a person into a vector image. [Forewarning it's kinda long] This is part 1 of three. These are the basic shapes, the other will go into more detail of blending and making it more realistic. If you have any questions about how this is done or if you are having any trouble, feel free to contact me! Feedback is greatly appreciated so that I can make better tutorials for everyone! This does require a knowledge of how the pen tool works. If you'd like to learn the pen tool I suggest going here >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGiUuBNVvAI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12X7Og-4-VM

step 11

At last the eyes. This will be the last for this tutorial.
[Going to have to go to Part II for the more detailed steps]

Step 1 ::
Create a new group.
I've labeled mine "Eyes"

Step 2 ::
Select the color of the rim of the eyes.
Color Used - #603c2c

Step 3 ::
Create the basic outline of the eyes, you can include the small bit of lids that show in this if you want since the color is very close.

step 12

Now for the eyes themselves.
there will be two parts here. The ball of white and the shadows of them.
[two shapes total per eye].

Step 1 ::
Outline the shape of the eye.

Color Used - #e7ded9

Step 2 ::
Create the shadow.

Color Used - #7f706a

step 13

Now for the LAST part lol yes you finally made it here.

The iris and the pupil.
Again very basic.

Step 1 ::
Stay in the eye group or create another one for this if you want.

Outline the iris.
Color Used - #686b35

Outline the Pupil
Color Used - #0e0a0b

Create the pupil highlight
Color Used - #c2c2c7

Feel free to trace out the eye itself and add the shadow from the lid to make it more realistic.
[That will be covered in more detail with the next tutorial]

-------------------------------------------
Congrats! You've created your first pure shape vector!
Feel free to tweak to your leisure and satisfaction. I will finish my final touches from this point.

Hopefully you got as far as I did. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
