Tutorial goal:
We are going to make our own painting out of a portrait. You need a bit of drawing and painting skills, but most of the work is done by blending layers and the use of a few filters. Very detailed steps for beginners. Made with CS2.

Go back to the new rectangle
Edit>paste
Your portrait is now copied on the new rectangle. (“girl 2”)
Now we have layer 1.
Use a soft eraser to remove part of the background of layer 1.
Save the “girl 1” psd file. We will need it again later.

Now we are going to draw and paint a bit. First we make a new layer so we won’t mess up the other layers.
Layer>new>layer
This is layer 2

Use a soft brush with very soft colours to paint over the skin and the hair. Don't make the brush too small. Use many different shades.

Set the opacity of layer 2 to 65%.

Make a new layer.
Layer>new>layer
This is layer 3.
Now select a fine brush tool and make fine dark lines around the hair,eyes, mouth and nose.
I also coloured the bows, and drew a few hairs on the forehead.
