Tutorial goal:

We are going to make our own painting out of a portrait. You need a bit of drawing and painting skills, but most of the work is done by blending layers and the use of a few filters. Very detailed steps for beginners. Made with CS2.

Check if the colours are still set on black and white.
Filter>sketch>photocopy

Play with the settings and push ok.

Now you have layer 4.

Click on the blending modes, and pick “screen”.
You can try out different blending modes, maybe you find another one that works better on your photo.
Set the opacity to 63%. Again, you can use another %.

Select>all
Edit>copy merged
File>new
Now you get a new empty rectangle. We will call this "girl2" from now one, and the first photo we'll call "girl1". Pick out a colour with the eyedropper tool and fill the rectangle with the paint bucket tool.
