step 1

Make a caricature from your favourite photo. All you have to do is emphasize the features of the face, by making some parts of the face bigger and some parts smaller.
I used a photo from www.sxc.hu

step 2

First make a copy of the original photo, because we will need that lateron.
Image>duplicate.
Use the lasso tool to select the mouth and chin. Make sure you also have a bit of the ear lobes.
Edit>copy>paste
This will be layer 1.

step 3

Layer 1 is selected. You can see this in the layer box.
Most caricatures have a big mouth and large teeth. Only if the person’s mouth is extremely small, you need to make it smaller. Here we are going to make the mouth bigger.
Edit>transform>scale
You get a rectangle and can use the dots in the corners and in the middle to scale the layer with your mouse.

step 4

Use the move tool to place the enlarged layer in the right place.

step 5

Layer 1 is still selected.
Edit>transform>warp
Now you get 9 rectangles and you can move the corners and dots with the mouse. We try to blend the layer with the background face, so we move the ear lobes on the layer to the ear lobes of the background face.

avatar pearlieThis looks like big fun, Hilleke - have only had time to glance over it, but can it be done with distort? I don't have the warp 'toy' - yet. I've printed out this huge volume for later reference, looking forward to trying it! Thanks.
