step 1

This tutorial is created in Photoshop CS2. Start off by creating a new file named "iPod Touch" or something relevant. Make the width 400px and the height 600px.

step 2

Next fill in the Background layer white and create a new layer called "base".

step 3

Using the rounded rectangle tool with the radius set to 40px draw a rounded rectangle to fill the stage in the shape of an iPod Touch (see diagram). Once you are happy with the shape right click on it and click on "make selection".

step 4

With the shape still selected fill it with the paint bucket tool (g) with the colour 7f8489 or in your own colour if you prefer. Then right click on the layer and select blending options. Select Inner Shadow and set it up like in the diagram below. Do the same for Inner Glow. This should give a shaded metal effect similar to that of an iPod touch.

step 5

Once you are happy with the colour and blending options, create a new layer called "inner base". Making sure the base is still selected go to Select > Modify > Contract. Then in the dialog box set it to "contract by 10px". Then with the newly modified selection fill it in with black (make sure you are on the "inner base" layer). Once you have filled it press Cmd-D (Ctrl-D) to deselect.
