Now click SELECT then DESELECT as shown.

Now select your SMUDGE tool and select a 39 PIXEL SPATTER brush

Now using very short brush strokes of say somewhere between 10 to 15 pixels, start on the white part and brush into the black and then back out again. Repeat this action all the way round the entire edge of the feather which should give you the same effect as shown here.
If you want an even further feathery appearance – perhaps at the bottom of the feather – as with some feathers that have a downy look to them simply drag the smudge tool out and away just a little bit further whilst at the same time creating a slight wiggle as you drag your tool upwards and outwards from the base of the feather.

Now you need to duplicate your layer you do this by right clicking on Layer 1 and then select DUPLICATE LAYER and then click OK

Now click IMAGE then ADJUSTMENTS and then INVERT as shown

I am not sure what is happening when I go to complete step 5 but I only have half the shape. When I stretch the lines out they only extend half the shape
