step 6

At the paths palette... click at the icon load paths as a selection....

step 7

The selection result...

P.S.: I'm showing a little place, where the selection was not good. At the next step will be fixed...

step 8

Fixing the bad selection.

You can use erase tool or a layer mask.
In that case, at the strait line, I have used erase tool, clicking at the point at the right and after, with the SHIFT key at the most left point where has the problem...

step 9

Create a new layer below the layer1 - CTRL key + click at the icon - create a new layer

Observation: the LAYER 1 must be without the locker. If it has a locker, double click at that layer. Will appear a NEW LAYER window ---> OK

step 10

Fill with black...

OBSERVATION: The worst color to use, to check if your are making a good mask work is BLACK. Here I'm showing the efficiency of that skill.

I usualy use below the layer 1 the other image that I 'll use as the new background...

avatar thoughtstormsOutstanding, as expected! I didn't know about dragging the pen point with CTRL - that will make the pen MUCH friendlier!

Bravo!

zusto [lvl 5] [vp 0] [vote medals 0]:
avatar zustoYou can make a selection of the object, find th Quick mask button on the toolbar (at the bottom), double click on it, select "masked area", confirm.
Everything except selected object will be covered with a red-mask color.
Then you can use the Gausian blur as described. Then click again to the Quick Mask button and press Delete. You will get the same result.

This could be made only if you are sure, you will not needed the cutted parts.
