Tutorial goal:

This tutorial uses the warp tool and layer blending modes to create a Phoenix Bird out of a flower.

Feathers on top of head are made from a section of the tail, transformed and placed into position.

Make shadow for eye.

The eye is a layer of yellow with a 2 pixel stroke of black outside. add the pupil and hilight and a bit of blur.

Place the eye in position, use the dodge tool to add more hilight, burn tool for shadows.


step 25


Merge all the bird layers and make a copy, change to multiply and turn down opacity. next go to the Select, modify, contract by 5 pixels, then hit Ctrl + Alt + D to bring up feathering, type in 20 pixels. now inverse the layer; Shift + Ctrl + I then hit delete and the layer below will show through around the edges giving a hilight effect.
