Make your Own Real Box - part 1

First and foremost...

we have to decide the size ..
the universal wallet box size is

11 inches width
12.5 inches height

the DPi is set to 300 (since all printable designs need high resoultion for you to get better print quality)

this must be new to most of you
my mode is set to CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow and Black)

the reason behine this is ..i am desiging or teaching you to make a offest printing job .. which means all your offset printing needs to have the mode as CMYK (4 colour job)

You would now have created a new file .. save the untitled file as boxtop.psd (ctrl+S),

This step you will have to set your ruler (ctrl+r) right click on it and set the metrics to inches bcos since we are working in inches..

Now drag your mouse from the ruler you will find a blue line coming out. Move the line to .75 inches on the top and bottom.

Similarly repeat on either sides you left and right .. move the guide line to about .25 inches ..

you might me wondering as to why you are doing this .. for all print jobs you need what is called a bleed. :) The reason for this is .. when you cut out your box you dont want to see white edges on its sides..

In this step we are going start create what we call as a Key LINE or a box out line. Which is nothing but as a reference for you to cut the shape of the TOP LID of the box (VERY IMPORATANT STEP)

THIS WILL HOLD THE KEY TO HOW YOU TOP BOX IS GOING TO LOOK

In order to make this press (short cut U) line tool the option panel and set it to 3 or 5 pixel

(point to remember here is have the key line in different colour than that of your box colour. i hv taken green )

Create a new file with measurement

5.233 widht
4.087 height

flow this size correctly as this is going to be the Top lid for your box

Now drag the colour filled layer you create in the new file and paste it in the exact co ordinates you see on the image above.. and drag the ruler guides around it

hold ctrl and click the selceted filled layer.. and press (alt s+m+c) contract by 3 pixels
