I painted over the original source image. No other images were used in the making of this image. The most helpful filter was the "cloud" filter. For step 7 I used the "Bas Relief" filter.

The hands and starfish were selected then copied. They were pasted onto the star field background and merged in. I added bevel and contours to give them depth.
Using Alien skin eye candy5 nature filters I added the water ripple effect.
