OK... I'm stupid. I made an entry for the "Amber Treasures" contest and didn't notice that I wasn't high enough level to enter. So, rather than have all that work go down the tubes, I improvised. :-) It was amazing... they found a GIANT hunk of amber with a Komodo Dragon frozen inside - so of course they rushed it to the museum. :-P

One tidbit... I happen to do lapidary work, and one of the things I cut is Copal (amber's true name). The amber in this picture is an actual piece that I cut especially for this contest. It's about 2" by 3" (see source pics)

The museum and the people are both from www.sxc.hu
The original version had a "redneck" from deviantart.com - thanks to al-shaitaan for their picture even though it didn't end up being used.

Of course it can be seen a lot better if viewed through "high resolution"

You know, I saw a 700 pound block of amber with a komodo dragon in it just the other day...it was really cool!

Overall a good idea, but my suggestion would be to loose a bit of the background to bring your image more into the foreground and just a touch of blending around the outer edge of the amber to really set it into the background. But I do like the concept and I know how frustrating it is to create an image and then find you are not eligible to enter that contest. With me it's the opposite - I can't enter these!!

One final adjustment needed and that is to add a bit of shadow at the feet of the girl as it looks like she is floating in mid air at the moment. Use the dodge/burn tool to add just a slight shadow and that should do the trick.
