Checkers Anyone?

First I extracted some big balls. Don't worry about what they looked like to me at first.

Then I picked up a few bits of the plain rusted background and constructed this square sheet.

Now I needed some checkerboard squares. Frankly, this more difficult than I had first thought.

Checkerboard complete, add some embellishment.
