It seems really stretched. Did you use the low-res version of the source?

I agree with jimmis. Perhaps shave a pixil of the edges to return some sharpness to them. Also, darken the shadows of the mouth and nose to match the shadow of the eyes. You might salvage it a bit then. Good idea though!
