Overlaid the image 3 times.

Got out the eraser and did a rough job.

Distort Twirl.

Entry guide: step 4 of 7

Scaled and distorted the bottom tail. Copied, flipped and merged twice. Copied, reduced and rotated.

Entry guide: step 5 of 7

Filled the background with black. Copied, Gaussian, copied again and rotated.

Entry guide: step 6 of 7

Then I went back and did most everything again because I didn�t like the format. Got back to where I was, made 5 layers and tweaked opacity, levels, curves, etc.

Basically repeated the last step till I got bored.
