a scan of a sheet of crumpled paper and a photo of my office floor.

after I had used a layer mask to cut the crumpled paper away from the background -
1- I modified the source image using distort tools and warp tool
2 - using the gradation in the crumpled paper - created a mask duplicated the result and inversed the mask to allow layer properties to be applied in different ways.
3 - the image on the left shows how the source looks with the mask applied.
4 - the end result is the image at the bottom right.
5 - the layers on the right show the variations.
I saved the result then flattened the image and opened it in anther file.

There is a plain colour layer missing here - I use this with a bright colour that isnt in the rest of th image if possible.
1 - I selected outline of the crumpled paper against the bright background. expanded the edge warped it and feathered the edge
2- In layer called "background copy" I played with Image - Adjustment - Exposure to get the shadow effect and --
3 - created a gradient layer to add a slight variation to the shadow.
4 - all that was left was to play with the "Dodge tool to highlight some of the ridges and sharp lines in the crumpled paper.
