I think the idea is excellent. You can improve it by making the lines (of the cut-outs from the source) softer. And try to blend them more to each other with the help a mask.

The edges are too blurry overall, like it's out of focus. The depth is pretty bad, I can't really tell what is what, or what is supposed to be closer or farther away.
