The world is underwater and human remnants still survive inhabiting relics of the past. I chose statues depicting man dominating nature just to throw a bit of irony in there. It's not very visible cos all the kelp but there's a sillouette of a dead city in the background. Check out the full-res.

Entry guide: step 1 of 5

Creation of Gill's Deep Sea Diner: Step 1

Painted the BG. Made a black mask of the city. Placed real diner inside the bus. Hue/saturation dodge/burn.

Creation of Gill's Deep Sea Diner: Step 2

Added buried statues, coral, ruined car, colluseum. Added sheen to windows. Made signs in Illustrator. Hue/saturation dodge/burn.

Made the bubble. Added sharks. Once again made the neon sign in Illustrator then brightness/contrast and blurred a separate layer underneath.

Painted kelp using the "grass" brush. Then liquified to make wavy and then hue/saturation dodge/burn. Created sunrays by applying a radial blur to a white circle then painting out streaks.

I made a few recent changes: Made a black mask of BG sharks, added a stingray, enlarged sharks in FG and made a bubble paintbrush to paint in some bubbles. Hope I didn't overdo it!
