Chairs In Variation

I use three layers. The top is always the final view of the image. The one below is the coloured image and the one below that is a copy of the original which will be made into a coloured image.

For the middle layer I choose the colour I would like to use by using colour balance.

Then on the top layer I select an area using the pen tool then convert it to a selection. Then I use the eraser tool to bring through the colour from the layer below. Once I have done this for all the objects that need colour, I merge the final layer and the colourized layer and start the process again.
