The sources you've used are great, and that helps a lot. Although the budgy is a little bit transparent in some areas

1-steps guide for Hello Polly !!:

Entry guide: step 1 of 1

1) extracted hand - corrected colouring
2) extracted parrot
3) removed tree branch & replaced with the hand
4) fixed up details - eg claws, & feathers missing
5) Added background foliage with a bit of the parrot pic foliage remaining
6) added gradient blur, high pass sharpening on parrot, shadow on parrots claws
