I lost a step here due to my bad saving.. so i will describe..
In this picture, I copied the kangaroo into a new layer, duplicated it as an overlay and added small Gausian blur to it.
On the background I burned the highlights and midtones further away to the kangaroo to make it look like it was in a spotlight.
and finally added an Ocean ripple filter to the background

After the Ocean ripple filter the original kangaroo was visible behind my newer kangaroo layers so i used the clone stamp around it to rid me of this problem.
Finally i added an adjustment layer and gave it a brown hue.
