Its a good start...my main piece of advice is to visualize your lightsource. If you know where your light is coming from it's easier to make more realistic (and correct) highlights and shadows which can really sell the piece.

my first attempt at photorealistic pic from scratch not so good and couldnt get the hair so i deleted it but i tried :-) comment lots please i need it bad :-)

Hair is probably the hardest thing to paint imo (I can't do it either)...one thing i'd advise is to watch edges...faces usually dont have very sharp (or blured for that matter) edges. Everything should seem smoothe (but not becasue of blurring). That being said, i think the lips are too sharp and the nose too blurred....instead of blurring to get a softer feel, try using more highlights and shadows!

Ok decided to give another shot at it. This one I made today, it was a picture my mom took when we all were in galveston texas a few days before the hurricane hit.

I did alot of layering, I think it took a total of 11 layers to get this effect.

Alot of sketching, layerblending and plastic wrap.

I did this along time ago. This was a photo that my mom took while they were camping.

I duplicated the original image and gave it an inkoutline effect I used some brushes and erased to blend in

duplicated the image again and gave it a plastic wrap and layer blended it
