Great idea and very well executed.
Only suggestion is to do something with mirror surface to make it more natural (now it looks like there is no mirror at all) At least reduce contrast and lighten the blacks a bit. (in selective colors)

High Resolution

A lot of time with the burn/dodge tool to edit the lighting, generic cropping for the bamboo hut. 2 external sources used, approx 3 hours total work. Sorry I didn't do a step by step, this is my first submission.

First of all I like it. It face is very smooth which also can look good if you want to get such as an effect like its painted. (I looks really good). But I think the bamboo should be also smoother so that everything is more in harmony. But this is just how I see it. Overall nice work

I think the best way to do shadows and lights is to create a new layer and work with brushes (black and white) and after that play with overlay mode or screen mode and adjust the opacity of the layer(s). Using only the burn and dodge your result will be smooth and you can't turn back modifications you made

giallo86, what I did was create a layer filled with %50grey, set to overlay, then dodged/burned that layer. Pretty much the same as you discribed, as it leaves the original image untouched.
