How I made the sketch:

hue/sat - desaturate > CTRL + J at the background image > CTRL + I > blending mode = color dodge > filter blur Gaussian around 3.6..... levels...dodge/burn tool sometimes with overlay ....

Idea is all right. If you cut the pumpkin into several petals along the segment lines, in seperate layers over;apped them and used warp to change the shapes you could get a better looking flower. Also dodge and burn will give the layers some dimension.

Much improve (IMHO). Keep on working. There is so much to learn and the folks here always have good advice. Check out all the tutorials also they have a wealth of information. Hope to be able to compete at this level soon.

Each petal is on a separate layer now. I tried to warp them in many different ways and now they look the best in my opinion.
