Tulip, created by charliangel
For this entry, I took a photo of a tulip I took, and the first thing I did was
extracted the main tulip from the background. To do this I used the magnetic
lasso tool and the eraser tool for small detail. I changed the background color
to one that is on the tulip and added a burlap texture to the background. Then
I changed the photo to black and white. After that, I changed it to duotone
and chose a gray-ish purple color and a bright purple color in the same family.
I then changed the curves until I achieved the look I wanted. After that, I
used the marquee tool to create cube shapes and used the "copy into new
layer command". Then on each new layer, I applied a inner glow layer
style. I then used the free transform and skew tools tools to distort and
change a few shapes. Then to other selected shapes, I added a color overlay in
layer style to change the shade of the cube.
Cubism Chair, created by charliangel
I used channels to roughly extract the chair from the background. After filling
in the background with red, I used the marquee tool to create boxes, and used
the create layer from copy to make a new layer. I did this many times until I
felt I had enough shapes. Then on various shapes I used transform to skew,
rotate, and expand the shapes until I got the look I desired. Then on each layer
except the background layer, I added an inner glow layer style. I increased the
size and decreased the opacity on the default settings to get the look I
desired. Then on various shapes I added texture using the texturizer filter and
the canvas texture. Then on other various shapes, I adjusted the saturation to
alter the color of the shape. After I achieved the look I wanted by altering the
various shapes, I added a new layer and filled it with an off-white color and
dropped the opacity to soften the whole image. Hope you like it! (The previous
one is mine, however, the system did not recognize that I had participated in a
contest, so I thought I'd try to submit it again.)
Set in Stone, created by charliangel
I used a clipping mask to apply a marble/stone look to the dog. I used the blur
tool to blend in the details on the dog to make it look more "statue
like". I then used the smudge tool to make the clipped dog blend well with
the background. Stone image is one of my own.
Image in the sky, created by charliangel
The background was a combination of a gradient and a photo that I took. I used
the cloud filter in a layer and then used the clipping mask tool to clip it
around the elephant. The mountains were created by creating a pattern out of
the rock wall background in the source and then using the pattern stamp tool, I
drew in the mountains. Then I used brushes and gaussian blur to create fluffy
looking clouds.
