If I had a fave file it would be on it.
I'd like to see more of a highlight on the top of the note, or whatever it's called.
Shouldn't you remove the two horizontal lines?

If yes you must show the step by step how you made the tree.....
I vote later.... it the tree was made using PS = high vote if not RED FLAG!!!

If that is the case and it can be used than this contest cannot be judged because there are thounsands of ready made brushes which could give you a landscape at a touch. Where is the skill in that.

The rules don't say not to use brushes with specific shapes, right? (1 year and 68 days ago)
For me, the tree brush is absolutely great, if the author were to tell me he created it, then I'd give high marks, I suspect it came from somewhere else, being that there is a bunch of them, so I'll vote on the rest of the image, (with the use of the brush.) unless I hear other wise. It's a nice tree, I'd like to create something like it myself, and then make it into a brush.
(1 year and 67 days ago)
I should be clearer what i meant... (I think that maybe many of us meant this):
If the tree was a brush aquired from PS or added later (we all now know this is the case, but we didn't before) _I_ personally still think it a fine entry! Very nice and moody, in fact.
If the tree had been something that you had made "from scratch" (aka: you drew the lines and made the shape yourself) i would have wanted to award you a few extra points, compared to the brush scenario.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with brushes and filters! PS would be dull and weak without such things! I(/We?) just wanted to know if we should give bonus points for the tree, if it had been your original work.
I see the work you did to make the shape better, and you get praise and credit for that, at least from me. (c=

(And while i am "gassing on"... i do not feel this way when copyright is infringed!)
(Again, author this does NOT mean this artwork!)

Well, i have never used any of the brushes except the kind of charcoal looking one.
But i got to thinking (rumble of thinder in the distance) some people make artwork using stamps that they buy at a store. They choose the colours and composition etcetera. Some say that is a 'craft' ... that ancient and pointless line of debate always makes me think of the quilts that have been kept for 300 years and more... the quilters didn't weave the cloth, print the patterns.... Old master painters used to grind pigment and mix up their own paint. Some still do. They made their own brushes (some from their own hair!). There is much to admire in that ...
but the film you can't see often enough would have been less effective if it had been forced to be carved / scratched and berry-juice-stained on a cave wall.
My new and growing opinion leads me to this suggestion. Reward the techniques you most admire, and like a judge at the Olympics, deduct points if you feel a "corner" was "cut" here or there.
I gas on for paragraphs (chapters, really) in the comments, so i don't want to appose anyone's opinions and comments - but i may also choose to try to balance out.
PHOTOgraphy has only been widely excepted as a true art form for handfuls of years. The quilt my Mother made last month will put happy tears in your eyes. Art i think is more suited for inclusion.
As far as level playing field... if someone enters a work of art using a brush - is the brush tool in your copy of photoshop disabled? Give it a go, you might come up with a masterpiece.
I am afraid i have grown into an excruciatingly... almost violently inclusive person, at least when it comes to making a work of art.
Sorry. (c!

No offense intended to anyone, i just feel opinions from various parts of the art and technique spectrum / continuum should be added to the mix ... if genuine, and not only out of contraryness.
I also hope anyone reading these remarks later can recall that this was the very first entry in this contest, and the author may indeed have entered other works as well.
This was a "fast draw" and i still think it was pretty well "aimed" (to "bust" another "cap" in a metaphor).
I'll hush now, before someone insists i get charged by the word like olde time telegraphs!

The resolution in step one is fine... please try again from the original .PSD file, full quality, zero compression at 600 pixels wide, as jezalmaarzowezen said.
Hate to have a really good entry suffer from a "glitch"!
